Some details about who I am and what makes me different.

        • Author of the best selling book, "The Rainbow Machine - Tales from a Neurolinguist's Journal" which led Bill O'Hanlon to write, "[Andrew T. Austin] is the British Milton Erickson."
          See Amazon for further reviews.

        • A licenced master practitioner of NLP with the Society of NLP who trained with Paul McKenna and Richard Bandler.

        • Formerly a registered nurse with a background in clinical neurology and neurosurgery. Also with 8 years experience working as an Occupational Health Advisor to industry and 4 years working in residential mental health housing.

        • First qualified in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy after a year long training with British Hypnosis Research at the Royal Masonic Hospital, Hammersmith, London.

        • Has assisted on the Paul McKenna and Richard Bandler NLP trainers training and NLP Practitioner in London.

        • Is the designer and head trainer of Integral Eye Movement Therapy, described by Andy Bradbury as follows:

"I've literally just come home from one of Andrew Austin's weekend "Integral Eye Movement Therapy" trainings and I am knocked out.

On the cover of his book Andrew describes himself as a Neurolinguist rather than a Neuro-Linguistic Programmer, and that is a very accurate description. That is to say, whilst he has a range of skills at his disposal (including conventional hypnosis and NLP), from his background in "conventional mental health" he has developed a process that is extremely effective in dealing with emotional and identity problems.

And here are those testimonials:

"Andrew Austin is clear, original, and outspoken about mental illness, medication, and psychiatry. His skills were honed by years of experience in the "trenches" of psychiatry, so he knows what he is talking about." Steve Andreas

"If you mean results, Andy himself has gone through the system. He has worked with patients for years in mental health wards and has since proven one of the best people-helpers in the whole of the UK (I know - I go to him for advice)." David Gould, NLP Practitioner, Therapist

"Thanks very much for taking the time to help me out, I can't even remember when it was now...I've felt great since I spoke with you and let it all out...I've also met a really nice guy..." L.T, Client

"…I thought you seemed motivated by a humane and compassionate attitude and one of genuine listening for the meaning behind the language of 'delusion'…I wish there had been a nurse like you in the hospitals I was in." K. N., patient

"A sincere thank-you to you, you were like a friend who talked a lot of sense…" R. G., Client

"I received hypnotherapy treatment from you back in June of this year for stopping smoking, and I would just like to say that I seemed to have succeeded in my battle of the vile habit! In other words I still haven't smoked and it is wonderful. My life feels so much fresher and I have a certain sense of self-confidence and well being that I have managed to overcome something that really did used to stress me out. I can't even believe that I used to smoke… it is a weird but pleasant feeling." E.C

Phantom limbs are not a modern phenomenon. There are records of people "haunted" by amputated appendages dating all the way back to the sixteenth century. Phantoms can be approached from any number of angles. "Phantoms In The Brain" takes a revolutionary new approach to theories of the brain, from one of the world’s leading experimental neurologists. Ramachandran, through his research into brain damage, has discovered that the brain is continually organising itself in response to change.

Phantom limb pain is often associated with the phenomenon of "phantom sensation", where patients perceive that their limb is present in its pre-amputation form. It may be associated with vivid feelings of movement in the missing limb. Phantom limb pain is an often severe and debilitating phenomenon that has been reported in up to 85% of amputees. Its pathophysiology is poorly understood. Phantom limb pain can range in type and intensity. For example, a mild form might be experienced as a sharp, intermittent stabbing pain causing the limb to jerk in reaction to the pain - an example of a more severe type might be the feeling that the missing limb is being crushed.

Phantom limb pain occurs among between 50 and 80 percent of amputees. The most common descriptions of phantom pain are variants of cramping, burning/tingling, and shocking/shooting/stabbing and is often considered to be a form of neuropathic pain, a group of pain syndromes associated with damage to nerves. Phantom limb pain is a puzzling and debilitating condition which responds poorly to normal medical interventions.

Phantom limb pain usually shows up within days of the amputation. Phantom limb pain (PLP) is a type of neuropathic pain syndrome that has evoked much interest in scientific and clinical fields. The condition is often intractable and severely debilitating.
